King Alfred was not nearly as famous as his previous counterpart Arthur, but still, he had his days. He defended England against the Danes over and over again. He founded the first English Navy in 871 and kept it strengthened his entire life. His final victory against the Danes was at Edington in Wiltshire County. The Peace of Wedmore was signed in 871, but unlike Arthur in Somerset, Alfred insisted on a “rectangular” table. From that point forward, Alfred’s Knights only sat at a rectangular table with Alfred at the head.
We are proud to offer our Wiltshire boards, and of course, they are rectangular.
